This add-on is the perfect opportunity to immerge yourself deeper into Namibia’s rugged nature and experience some more of the contrasting beauty this north-western side of the country has to offer. This road takes you off the beaten track and let’s you explore the more remote areas, where you can witness animals adapted to these dry and harsh conditions; as well as understand how people, the Ovahimba, in this area can only survive and live their ways by being in tune with the changing conditions of their natural habitat. You have some long drives, but get rewarded with a little piece of paradise at the Epupa Falls.

Day 1
Palmwag
This rugged area is known for its desert adapted animals, including elephants, rhinos and lions.
Take a self-drive in the Palmwag concession and keep your eyes open, while exploring these rocky plains and getting a real wilderness experience.
The Palmwag ‘oasis’ invites you to relax and unwind in the afternoon and evening, in the shades of the palm trees or sunbathing by the Pool.
Day 2
Opuwo
The capital of Kaokoveld.
A bustling small town and the cultural heart of Namibia’s Himba communities. Opuwo offers a perfect opportunity to learn about the traditional lifestyles and gain insight into this ancient culture.
Explore Namibia offers organised self-drive holidays and private guided tours. You can go on an adventure in a fully equipped vehicle of your own choice. We will arrange your accommodations in advance, whether you wish to stay in lodges and guesthouses, on campsites or both.

Epupa Falls
Palm Trees and water… after kilometers of shrubs and sand.
This is a striking location along the Kunene River. Cascading falls, surrounded by baobabs and Makalani-palms, create a lush contrast to the arid landscape. Relax under the palm trees, and enjoy being close to nature.
The Kunene River, the natural border to Angola – take a walk along the river, explore the surroundings of the falls -and be sure to watch out for the crocodiles.
Day 5
Etosha West
Get your binoculars ready!
After a long drive from Epupa falls, you’ll enter the Etosha National Park through the remote western section. A quieter and less visited part of the park, this area is perfect for wildlife viewing, with chances to see elephants, lions, and black rhinos.

Resume original itinerary at Etosha National Park

Accommodation:
Standard accommodation tours include all rooms at middle-class hotels, guesthouses or lodges (mostly B&B), unless otherwise requested.
Standard camping tours include most nights at campsites, combined with several nights at middle-class hotels, guesthouse or lodges (mostly B&B).
Almost all campsites and accommodations have a restaurant and offer facilities like a pool, bar, info desk, etc.
If the trips includes visits to National Parks, then the nights will be spent inside the parks as much as possible.
Meals & Drinks:
Most accommodations are booked with breakfast and camping is self-catering. It will be clearly indicated what meals are included in your tour proposal.
With most accommodations it is also possible to book dinner in advance. If you would like to include this in your proposal, please let us know.
