Detailed Itinerary

Route Big 5

Day 1-2

Windhoek – Okonjima

After arriving in Namibia, you will spend a night in Windhoek, to relax, acclimatize and prepare yourselves for the journey ahead of you.

This will give you the opportunity to acclimatize, walk through the city center and prepare for the next day. You will start your self-drive adventure, heading towards your first destination: Okonjima

The afternoon in Okonjima invites you to take part in one of the many activities offered or to relax at the pool. We highly recommend doing the spectacular Leopard Tracking Activity. The Okonjima Lodge is also the base camp of the AfriCat Foundation, where you are not only able to become more informed about the Human and Wildlife conflict in Southern Africa, but also have the opportunity to see some of the orphaned animals.

Day 3-4

Etosha National Park

Have your binoculars ready to spot the elephant? Or some Giraffes, Zebras, and Springbok?

You will be the driver of your own safari, which is unique in Africa. However, camps in and around the park do offer guided game drives. Look around for lions, cheetahs, and leopards and many more species. Settle around one of the park’s waterholes and be amazed by the number of animals that gathers here for their daily thirst relief.

Elephants, giraffes, zebras and antelopes arrive in large numbers from all directions! This is a truly unforgettable experience! And what do you think about an exciting safari on foot in the Onguma Private Game Reserve located next to Etosha?

Zambezi Region

As you drive further North, you will experience a whole new Namibia

From dry sand, you enter the wet lands of the ‘Caprivi Strip’ and experience a much more lively Africa around you. Many small villages and settlements, and life will surround you as you make your way along the Zambezi region.

Enjoy a river cruise on the rivers, explore the smaller and untouched Bwabwata and Mudumu and Mamili parks, and get to know some new cultures by visiting some of the traditional villages.

You can join some boat and fishing trips, and even take part in some hiking trails, which lets you discover the versatile plant and birdlife of this area!

Day 10-11

Kasane Botswana

Chobe National Park, home to the largest elephant population of Africa.

At the eastern Zambezi region you will cross the border to Botswana, where you will stay in Kasane. This is the perfect basis for a visit to the beautiful Chobe National Park, home to the largest elephant population of Africa. Up to 200,000 of these gentle giants walk around the park. It is amazing to drive through this beautiful nature with your own car. There is even a spot where you can have your own picknick, however be aware of the hungry monkeys!

Go on a boat cruise to see elephants bathing, and surround yourself with hippos and crocodiles that hide under water.

Day 12-14

Victoria Falls Zimbabwe - departure

Every minute, thousands of liters of water hurtle down into the abyss.

You will take a transfer from Kasane to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe. This is a comfortable and easy way to cross the border. This small town has something to offer for everyone – nature lover, foody, adrenaline junkie? You will surely find something memorable to do and experience. Of course you will visit the Victoria Falls and take a walk around this ‘jungle’ from where you can admire, hear and even feel these mesmerising falls. Do not forget a light rain coat!

Besides a visit to the fall, consider a helicopter flight for a bird-eye view? Or a historical bridge tour? And do not miss out on a sunset dinner cruise on the Zambezi for a sensory experience of a lifetime!

On day 14, it is time to say good bye to this holiday and head home with memorable impressions of the ‘Big 5’ and much more.
