Yes — it is the country we would send a first-time Africa traveller to. Traffic is light, main roads are tarred and the gravel roads are well graded. You drive on the left, you avoid driving after dark, and you keep your speed down on gravel: that is most of the briefing.
For our classic routes, no. A high-clearance 4×4 is about comfort and ground clearance rather than technical driving. Only the Skeleton Coast and Kaokoveld route asks for some sand and rough-track experience, and we say so before you book.
For May to October, eight to twelve months ahead — the good lodges and the automatic vehicles go first. Green season trips can often still be built three to four months out.
Lodges if you want a shower and a bed at the end of a driving day. Rooftop tent if the campsite is the point: campsites in Namibia are excellent, private and usually have their own ablution block. Many travellers mix both, and we plan the switch-overs around long drives.
Vehicle with unlimited kilometres and insurance, all accommodation with the meals stated, park entry fees, your road book with offline maps, and 24/7 support. Flights, fuel, drinks and optional activities are not included, and we list them separately so you can see the real total.
